Plan around construction, utility and paving work from Wednesday, October 21, 2026 to Tuesday, October 27, 2026. In the City and County of Denver's street occupancy permit data, ROW Construction made up 243 permitted stretches, down from 274 the week before. Utility work fell from 224 to 177 and Road/Alley Repair from 94 to 88. These figures are city permits for those dates, not confirmation of a closure on any street.
Key takeaways
- Denver has 1,261 permitted street stretches this period, down 15.8% on the week before.
- A permit allows a full closure beginning on 59 stretches between October 21 and October 27, 2026.
- E 47th Ave has the most permitted stretches, 21.
- ROW Construction is the top purpose, ahead of Utility and Fiber Optics.
- Fiber Optics work rose to 156 stretches from 109.
Permit counts fell against last week and last year
Last year's matching week, October 22 to October 28, 2025, carried 1,839 stretches, and this period is down 31.4% on it. The 406 distinct permits behind this week's stretches match the 406 in the October 12 edition, which counted 1,223 stretches. The same number of permits now covers more street than it did then.
By kind of closure, full street or alley closures dropped to 154 from 201, and lane closures on main streets to 276 from 369. Detours fell to 10 from 18. Sidewalk closures came to 342, against 369 the week before.

A count of stretches is not a length of time or a number of blocked lanes. One permit can cover several stretches, and a street with a high count may have short work on each.
What to watch next week
Compare next week's stretch count with this period's 1,261, and watch whether Fiber Optics keeps climbing. The previous edition shows where the totals stood a week earlier. Permits on S Henry Pl, E Jerome Ave and N Albion St run to Wednesday, October 28, 2026, so they will still be active when the next count lands.
To check a specific street before heading out, use the Denver construction map. Denver Public Works handles these permits through its Right-of-Way Services office.
Methodology
The numbers come from the City and County of Denver's street occupancy permits open data, pulled October 21, 2026. They cover Wednesday, October 21, 2026 to Tuesday, October 27, 2026, against October 14 to October 20, 2026 and October 22 to October 28, 2025.
These are permits for street occupancy, not closures observed. Permits with an end date more than a year away are open-ended placeholders and are not counted. Closures on state highways, interstates and streets outside Denver are not included.
Counts are stretches, not rates. Some permit types are not itemised, so the rows do not add up to the total.
