About this event

In this two-part workshop, professor Dr. Shelly Smith-Acuña, author of Systems Theory on Action , will share how attachment theory can offer insight into understanding and promoting healthy relationships, help you identify attachment styles and patterns in your life, and provide ideas and practices to make your relationships more secure and satisfying. People often believe that attachment styles developed in childhood can limit opportunities for secure attachments later in life, but current knowledge suggests that attachment patterns can be modified and improved to create greater mental health and happiness throughout our lifetimes. Please register below. Registration is for both dates. Thursday, November 5, 10–11 a.m . Part One: Overview of Attachment Theory What are attachment styles and why are they important? How are attachment styles created and changed? What attachment styles have you developed through your life? Which relationships in your life are working well, and which would you like to improve? Thursday, November 12, 10–11 a.m. Part Two: Skills and Practices to Build Secure Attachment What types of communication practices build secure attachment? How can you create change in your relationships? Why is older adulthood such a good time to improve relationships? What are the challenges and opportunities to building better relationships at this stage of life?
