Celebrate the life and influence of the iconic Dolly Parton with this exploration of the musician's life and influence by acclaimed author Sarah Smarsh. In this two-part book study for adults 50+, we will discover how Dolly became a feminist icon through her music, sharp wit, and deep empathy for unsung women, as well as examine Dolly's lyrics as literature of working-class survival and how pop culture shapes our views on feminism. Session 1: Thursday, November 5 - We will hand out free copies of She Come By It Natural, Dolly Parton and the Women Who Loved Her Songs , and have a pre-reading discussion about Dolly Parton's early life and musical storytelling, as well as learn about the author, Sarah Smarsh. Session 2: Thursday, November 19 - We will discuss Dolly's global impact and her legacy as we connect with others who have a passion for music and social history. Registration required (see below)
