We recently attended a lecture by Neil DeGrasse Tyson here. While we understand that the theatre needs to set up temporary chairs in the area meant for general admission at concerts, the folding chairs were similar to basic economy seating in the back of an airplane, where there was no legroom and no way to let someone out of the center when they need to. We were also so close to the person next to us that if someone was large-bodied it could be very awkward and inhospitable. The air conditioning was also a large dryer tube that peeked out of a side curtain. At one point it was directly blowing on the crowd near the side until they adjusted it. I know this is an old building, but is there not a better way? I would recommend sitting further back for a sit-down show as there are more comfortable theatre seats that have more cushioning than the folding chairs. Also, I feel like the theatre needs to invest in a bigger, more modern screen for the speaker’s PowerPoints. The current screen has visible wear and is smaller than the smallest movie theater screen I’ve seen. Overall, the staff were awesome, and quickly corrected a man taking photos with a flash sitting behind us. I’m thinking this might be better for a music event in the long run.
We went to the Paramount Theatre to see "Somebody Feed Phil" Phil Rosenthal. It's located right on 16th Street so there are plenty of restaurants within walking distance around that you can hit before the show. The venue is absolutely iconic and beautiful. The fixtures and the atmosphere is very ornate 1930's and whimsical! The seating is like old school movie theater seating. I will seek out feature shows here!
Great for concerts, I've seen 3 there over the years! Very expensive beers. Dates back with many old photos downstairs pictures from the 1930s up through the 60s but I will say the sound quality is very good if you're within the first 35 rows.
A Night of Art Deco and 80s Nostalgia at The Paramount If you are looking for a venue that is as much a part of the show as the performers themselves, the Paramount Theatre in Denver is it. Stepping into the theater feels like stepping back into 1930. The interior is a breathtaking example of "Zig Zag Art Deco"—the kind of fanciful, ornamental design that truly captures the energy of the Jazz Age. It’s no wonder the architect, Temple Buell, considered this his finest work. From the intricate details to the one-of-a-kind Wurlitzer twin-console organ, the craftsmanship is a rare find today. It makes sense why it’s listed on the National Register of Historic Places; the atmosphere is unmatched. We recently visited to see Colin Hay, and it was the perfect setting for such a nostalgic night. His voice and the band were absolutely off the charts! Hearing those songs live was a total trip back to the 80s and my childhood. The acoustics in the 1,865-seat house are fantastic—intimate enough to feel connected to the performance, but grand enough to feel the energy of the crowd. The venue is also very well-equipped for guests. There are snacks and drinks available for purchase, and a standout feature is the complimentary filtered water machines, which make it easy to refill your own bottle or a cup throughout the night. The Paramount remains a vibrant landmark for a reason. Whether you're there for the history, the architecture, or a great concert, it’s a Denver treasure that never misses a beat. Such a great performance in an even better venue!
Amazing theater hosting a WIDE variety of events and shows. Vintage and elegant architecture with very little changed since the 1930's. Plan your restroom trips wisely as the lines can be large during intermission etc.
