About this event

The Sand Creek Massacre took place on November 29, 1864, an atrocity whose legacy has left a horrific mark on Colorado and local Indigenous history. In this Show and Tell, Special Collections and Archives staff will be displaying newspaper clippings, art, archival correspondence from the vault, and more to examine how this event has been remembered over the last 162 years. Through this program, attendees will help acknowledge the past and gain a better understanding of how extreme violence and injustice shapes public memory. Around special collections, backpacks must be stowed in lockers, talk to the front desk on Level 5 to learn how. No open food containers or open water bottles allowed around materials. Parking options: Metered street parking downtown is free on Sundays, and there is parking at the Cultural Center Complex Garage with posted rates at 65 W 12th Ave, Denver CO 80204. Finding the Gates Meeting Room: Use the public elevators to go to the 5th floor. Enter the main hallway and turn right (south). There are 2 doors on either side of a display, those lead to the Gates Meeting Room!
