Join Denver Public Library for an evening with acclaimed author Tommy Orange, in conversation with Deborah Taffa, author of Whiskey Tender . Orange and Taffa will explore craft, storytelling, and the writing of Wandering Stars , a novel that traces the legacies of the Sand Creek Massacre of 1864 and the Carlisle Indian Industrial School through three generations of a family. Together, they’ll consider how history, memory, family, and place shape the stories we inherit and the stories we tell. Presented during Native American Heritage Month in partnership with the Sand Creek Massacre Foundation, the evening will include a moderated conversation followed by audience Q&A. Books by both authors will be available for purchase onsite from our friends at The Shop at MATTER. About Tommy Orange Tommy Orange is the author of There There , a finalist for the 2019 Pulitzer Prize and winner of the 2019 American Book Award, and Wandering Stars . An enrolled member of the Cheyenne and Arapaho Tribes of Oklahoma, Orange was born and raised in Oakland, California, and is a graduate of the MFA program at the Institute of American Indian Arts.
