The Story of LoDo

๐Ÿ•๏ธ
1858

Denver Founded at the Confluence

LoDo sits at the original townsite of Denver City, platted in 1858 at the confluence of Cherry Creek and the South Platte River by General William Larimer Jr.

๐Ÿš‚
1870sโ€“1880s

Denver's Commercial Heart

The arrival of the railroad in 1870 made LoDo a booming hub. Warehouses, wholesalers, and the first department stores packed the district's iconic brick blocks.

1914

Union Station Rebuilt

The current Beaux-Arts Union Station opened in 1914, replacing an 1881 structure. It served as Denver's gateway for generations of travelers.

๐Ÿš๏ธ
1970sโ€“1980s

Urban Decline

As suburbanization drained downtown, LoDo warehouses emptied. The neighborhood fell into disrepair โ€” cheap rents attracted artists, galleries, and fringe businesses.

โšพ
1995

Coors Field Opens

The opening of Coors Field (originally built 1993โ€“1995) catalyzed LoDo's revival, bringing foot traffic, bars, and investment that transformed Blake Street.

โœจ
2014

Union Station Renovated

A $54 million renovation transformed Union Station into a world-class transit hub and social destination โ€” Terminal Bar, boutique hotel, and year-round events followed.
