The Story of Ballpark
Denver's Original Warehouse District
The area surrounding what is now Coors Field was part of Denver's earliest commercial and warehouse district, with rail connections bringing goods to the young frontier city.
Wazee Street Industrial Corridor
Wazee Street and the surrounding blocks became Denver's wholesale and warehouse district, filled with cast-iron-facade commercial buildings that still stand as some of Denver's oldest architecture.

Clark, Gruber & Co. — Denver's earliest commercial brick architecture near the warehouse district
Urban Decay
As industry moved out and downtown development stalled, the ballpark-area warehouses fell into disrepair. The neighborhood was largely empty and underutilized for decades.
Coors Field Built
Coors Field was designed by HOK Sport and constructed from 1993–1995 at the corner of 20th and Blake. The stadium was intentionally designed in a retro-classic style to complement the historic brick neighborhood.
Coors Field Opens — Neighborhood Revives
Opening day for Coors Field on April 26, 1995 marked a turning point. Within years, bars, restaurants, and loft conversions transformed the sleepy warehouse blocks into Denver's liveliest game-day district.
McGregor Square Opens
McGregor Square, a 2-acre mixed-use development directly adjacent to Coors Field, opened in 2021 with a hotel, residences, restaurants, and an outdoor plaza that hosts year-round events.

McGregor Square is a mixed-use development next to Coors Field with a hotel, residences, restaurants and an outdoor plaza that hosts year-round events, according to the same Ballpark Denver page. The plaza is the stop for a day without a game, and event times and any cost should be confirmed with the organizer.
