Platt Park was platted in the 1890s as one of Denver's first southern suburbs, named after Platt Rogers, Denver's mayor from 1891–1893. The neighborhood developed as a quiet residential area along South Pearl Street.
South Pearl Street developed as a streetcar commercial strip serving the surrounding residential blocks. Victorian homes and craftsman bungalows filled the neighborhood during this period.
Platt Park remained a stable, working-class neighborhood for mid-century Denver — safe, quiet, and largely unchanged from its early residential character.
Young families drawn by affordable craftsman bungalows and safe streets began moving to Platt Park. Independent restaurants and cafes opened along South Pearl Street, starting the neighborhood's transformation.
