Awesome farm-to-table place. You essentially get a few plates and share. Excellent service and really fresh, local, in-season produce. Overall, prices were very reasonable for the quality of the meal. Went on a Tuesday night without reservations and was seated right away.
Love the vibe of this LoHi bistro. Went there with my oldest for a pre-Fathers Day dinner. Solid flavors, attentive staff and great energy. If I would make one recommendation it would be to how they set up their menu. It might be better to simply say starters, small plates and large plates as opposed to their “trying to be clever” mill, veggie, sea and land approach.
We came here for restaurant week and my husband and I shared everything. We got: - Devils on Horseback - Duck & Potato Croquettes - Rockfish Tom Kha - Pork Osso Buco - Croissant Bread Pudding - Key Lime Curd I really enjoyed everything, but it has been few months and there are a couple of things that were so good I'm still thinking about them. The Rockfish Tom Kha had absolutely incredible flavor. I've never had it as an entree before and they do it very well. The Key Lime Curd was the other top dish for me. It was so tart which is exactly what I wanted. They have a good looking meal for Sunday dinner too and I'd love to come back for it.
Service here is top notch and they have the coolest ambience. The food is all plated quite impressively but honestly was lacking in flavor and depth. For the prices I do expect food to impress me throughout every course. The best I tried was the braised beef and steak but again there was something missing. I will say the drinks were unique and packed with flavor and were so so very good. This is such a cool place overall but honestly needs more flavor in their dishes. Additionally, this place is advertised mostly for shared plates but is only really fit for sharing between 2-3 people and requires add ons for almost every smaller app which I consider excessive.
Root Down is another strong restaurant from the Edible Beats group and definitely worth visiting if you’re in Denver. The space has a unique style with a mix of artsy and mid century influences while still feeling relaxed and welcoming. The menu felt very thoughtful and well balanced. Standout dishes for me included the smoked carrots, masa birria, diver scallops, hanger steak, and the grilled artichokes and asparagus. The hanger steak was cooked really well and paired with duck fat potatoes, which worked perfectly together. Dessert was also a highlight, especially the banana cream pie with black sesame whip. Overall, it’s the kind of restaurant where every dish at the table gets passed around because everyone wants to try everything. A really enjoyable dining experience from start to finish.
