The café serves coffee, breakfast and dessert, with takeout. Hours are Thursday to Sunday, 7 AM to 1 PM, and it is closed Monday through Wednesday. Proper Grounds Coffee is a community café at 1075 Park Ave W. Its website describes sourcing from Black-owned farms and building economic opportunity in the neighborhood, so a stop here supports that aim. The café serves coffee, breakfast and dessert, with vegetarian options, and dogs are allowed. It is open every day from 7:30 AM to 2:30 PM, which makes it the Monday option. Prices are listed as inexpensive, and the rating is 4.9 of 5 across 362 Google ratings.

Welton Street Café on Welton St

Welton Street Café is a casual storefront at 2883 Welton St. Its website describes a family-owned soul food staple, with crispy fried chicken and smothered porkchops among the dishes, alongside basic American choices. That makes it the pick for a sit-down meal rather than a quick cup. The café serves brunch, coffee, breakfast, beer and wine. Hours are Wednesday to Saturday, 11 AM to 8 PM, and Sunday, 11 AM to 6 PM; Monday and Tuesday it is closed. Prices are listed as moderate, and the rating is 4.5 of 5 across 1588 Google ratings.
