LoDo sits at the original townsite of Denver City, platted in 1858 at the confluence of Cherry Creek and the South Platte River by General William Larimer Jr.

Clark, Gruber & Co. Bank & Mint — Denver's first financial institution, 1860
The arrival of the railroad in 1870 made LoDo a booming hub. Warehouses, wholesalers, and the first department stores packed the district's iconic brick blocks.

The current Beaux-Arts Union Station opened in 1914, replacing an 1881 structure. It served as Denver's gateway for generations of travelers.
As suburbanization drained downtown, LoDo warehouses emptied. The neighborhood fell into disrepair — cheap rents attracted artists, galleries, and fringe businesses.
The opening of Coors Field (originally built 1993–1995) catalyzed LoDo's revival, bringing foot traffic, bars, and investment that transformed Blake Street.
A $54 million renovation transformed Union Station into a world-class transit hub and social destination — Terminal Bar, boutique hotel, and year-round events followed.
