The Story of Ballpark

๐Ÿญ
1860sโ€“1880s

Denver's Original Warehouse District

The area surrounding what is now Coors Field was part of Denver's earliest commercial and warehouse district, with rail connections bringing goods to the young frontier city.

๐Ÿญ
1880s

Wazee Street Industrial Corridor

Wazee Street and the surrounding blocks became Denver's wholesale and warehouse district, filled with cast-iron-facade commercial buildings that still stand as some of Denver's oldest architecture.

๐Ÿš๏ธ
1950sโ€“1980s

Urban Decay

As industry moved out and downtown development stalled, the ballpark-area warehouses fell into disrepair. The neighborhood was largely empty and underutilized for decades.

๐Ÿ—๏ธ
1993โ€“1995

Coors Field Built

Coors Field was designed by HOK Sport and constructed from 1993โ€“1995 at the corner of 20th and Blake. The stadium was intentionally designed in a retro-classic style to complement the historic brick neighborhood.

โšพ
1995

Coors Field Opens โ€” Neighborhood Revives

Opening day for Coors Field on April 26, 1995 marked a turning point. Within years, bars, restaurants, and loft conversions transformed the sleepy warehouse blocks into Denver's liveliest game-day district.

๐Ÿ—๏ธ
2021

McGregor Square Opens

McGregor Square, a 2-acre mixed-use development directly adjacent to Coors Field, opened in 2021 with a hotel, residences, restaurants, and an outdoor plaza that hosts year-round events.
