Five Points holds two community cafés, a jazz supper club, two large murals and a park with an off-leash dog area. They sit on Champa Street, Park Avenue West, 27th Street, Welton Street, Washington Street and Glenarm Place, so this page orders the stops by what each offers and when it is open: morning coffee first, then evening jazz, then the murals and the dog area. For five other places in the neighborhood, see Five Points live music and murals.
Community Coffee Stops in Five Points
Two cafés open the day here, one on Champa Street and one on Park Avenue West. Both are inexpensive and both serve breakfast. The choice is between a Thursday-to-Sunday morning stop and a daily one. Coffee shops in Five Points lists more.
Coffee Tree
Coffee Tree is at 2960 Champa St. It is an independent Black-owned café that honors the neighborhood's historic culture with Ethiopian single-origin coffees, and the site is linked here for reference. The café is closed Monday through Wednesday and open Thursday through Sunday, 7 a.m. to 1 p.m. Coffee, breakfast and dessert are on offer, and takeout is available, which suits a short stop before the walk on. Free street parking is available and the entrance is wheelchair accessible. It is rated 4.9 of 5 across 187 Google ratings.
Proper Grounds Coffee
Proper Grounds Coffee is at 1075 Park Ave W. This community café is committed to sourcing from Black-owned farms and to building economic opportunity in the neighborhood; the site is linked for reference. It is open daily, 7:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m., so it is the coffee stop on the days Coffee Tree is closed. It serves coffee, breakfast and dessert, with vegetarian options, and dogs are allowed. Street parking is free. It is rated 4.9 of 5 across 362 Google ratings.
Live Jazz and Supper in Five Points
Nocturne is the evening stop, after both cafés have closed for the day.
Nocturne Jazz & Supper Club
Nocturne Jazz & Supper Club is at 1330 27th St, between Larimer and Walnut. It is a bi-level lounge and eatery with live jazz, and the site carries the headings Live Jazz, Fine Dining and Wine & Cocktails. It is open Tuesday through Sunday, 5 p.m. to midnight. Nocturne serves beer, wine and cocktails. Prices run very expensive. Free street parking and valet parking are both available. It is rated 4.8 of 5 across 1357 Google ratings. It is the only place on this page with live music, and the only one that takes reservations.
Murals on Welton and Washington Streets
The murals stand on different streets, so each gets its own stop. Both are outdoors. Five Points Street Art has more on the neighborhood's walls.
The Librarian
The Librarian is at 2401 Welton St. The giant black-and-white portrait shows a Black librarian reading to children and celebrates education and literacy in Five Points, which is the reason to stop. The mural is also the one place on this page that is good for children. The Denver Public Library has a page on it. Free street parking is available, and both the entrance and the parking are wheelchair accessible. It is rated 4.3 of 5 across 114 Google ratings.
The Five Points Lynx
The Five Points Lynx is at 2444 N Washington St #100. A massive Canada lynx with piercing amber eyes crouches across a three-story warehouse wall, and the Five Points BID points to it. The scale of the wall is the reason to go. The entrance is wheelchair accessible.
Off-Leash Dog Area at Garfield Park
Garfield Park
Garfield Park is at 2800 Glenarm Pl. This community park has a dedicated off-leash dog area that welcomes dogs of all sizes and is very well maintained; the Glenarm Recreation Center page carries the park listing. The park is open Monday through Thursday, 6 a.m. to 8 p.m., Friday 8 a.m. to 7 p.m., and Saturday 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. It is closed Sunday. It is an inexpensive stop, rated 4.5 of 5 across 127 Google ratings, and both the entrance and the parking are wheelchair accessible. Dogs are also allowed at Proper Grounds Coffee, on Park Avenue West, which gives a dog owner a coffee stop and a park in the same neighborhood.
