What a wonderful cafe. The catfish and the greens were so delicious! The shrimp dinner was delicious. Such a good meal for lunch and I’d imagine this place is popping on the weekends. The decor was beautiful — the manager was super friendly and she they just decorated with these adorable flamingos. If you’re looking for yummy food and great people, this is the place! The Mac and cheese is to die for!!!!! ❤️❤️❤️❤️
We shared the full fried chicken dinner for lunch and with a beef patè it was plenty of food for all three of us. The chicken was beautifully seasoned, crisp of skin, and the breading was light and supremely crunchy. It was served hot, to order, so it took a while, and they served the patè with our meal. The patè had a mildly spicy filling that was nearly all meat, and the crust was substantial and fried golden and crunchy. Very satisfying. The service was excellent, welcoming, and the server didn't mind us asking him his favorite sides. He answered the rice and beans and the cabbage. The rice and beans actually had golden rice, seasoned like New Orleans yellow rice, and the beans were a tender layer on top. The sauteed cabbage was a treat, cooked tender crisp and seasoned thoroughly. We loved the Juneteenth decor too.
As someone that grew up in the Southeast, this place took me back home. That incredible service, outstanding food, and uplifting atmosphere. The decor was different than what I am used to, but was unique and inviting. I had the catfish and it was spot on! Exactly what you would expect from some of the best soul food spots in the South. The mac and cheese was so creamy and flavorful. The red beans and rice where a perfect classic. I can't wait to go try more! My only complaint, and it's not really a complaint, is I miss some good pinto beans and cornbread. Their cornbread would be perfect with a good pot of pintos, and they would have me as a regular if that was an option. What an experience to have that feel right in Downtown Denver.
In a word "Scrumptious" we have returned 3 times and the food is consistently delicious, the service is great and the atmosphere is warm and welcoming for gatherings. We have tried the fried chicken, wings, fried catfish and whiting with mac/cheese, greens, yams, and red beans/rice! Special shout to Sytierni for excellent service, you ROCK!
I went to Welton Street Cafe and the food was really good. Everything was seasoned perfectly, hot, and fresh. You can tell it’s cooked to order because it came out tasting like it was just made, not sitting around. If you’re planning to go on the weekend, I definitely recommend making a reservation so you don’t have to wait. We went on a Sunday around 3:30 and as we were walking in to get seated, the host was telling people it was about a 1.5 hour wait. So yeah, make that reservation ahead of time.
