The flow of information was delivered in a way that made the inner working of a diesel engine easy to comprehend. The hands on portion was well monitored to make sure everyone got time and hands on the engine, tools and service manuals. I would highly recommend this class to any one who spends time on a boat!!
30 some years ago a good friend of mine started a sailboat charter company in Colorado. To get insurance to sail on the Sea of Cortez he needed to take a navigation course to be certified. He found a school in CO, 1500+ miles from any ocean. That was Victoria Sailing School. He raved about it. This year I found myself in the same situation so I looked up VSS. Not only was it still around but it was run by the same family. I was able to complete the classes, on a tight time schedule and could not be happier. Now my whole family is enrolled and I’m continuing my education not because I have to but because I want to. The fact that in land-locked Colorado we have a resource like the Victoria Sailing School is unbelievable. They cover everything from the classroom to online to local lake sailing to the Caribbean to Catalina Island in the Pacific. If you’ve ever wanted to learn to sail or need to take it to the next level you have a priceless opportunity right here at home.
I had a fantastic experience with Victoria Sailing School! The instructors were knowledgeable, patient, and made learning both enjoyable and confidence-building. I learned far more than I expected and successfully passed my ASA 101 and 103 certifications feeling prepared to get out on the water. I’m excited to continue my sailing education with Victoria Sailing School and would highly recommend them to anyone looking to learn how to sail or build their skills.
I have taken ASA 1012, 102, and 103 courses through VSS. I was impressed with the quality of instruction, both in the classroom and on the water. The instructors are patient and knowledgeable. They also ask whether and if the training could be improved.
I highly recommend Victoria Sailing School (VSS). They have seasoned, very experienced, professional sailing instructors. I less than 3 weeks, I was able to get ASA 101 and ASA 103 certified, thanks to the well-organized sailing theory, knots training and nine on-the-water sailing "practicals" that enabled me to pass the ASA exams. The VSS portal for sailing students is very well organized and easy to use for scheduling and accessing ASA sailing theory training materials and scheduling practicals and exams. During the first theory or knots class, you get to choose which PFD you want (one included PFD, or two others for an additional fee). For ASA 101, we practiced on J22 keelboats. For ASA 103, we practices on J30 keelboats. They have morning or afternoon sailing "practicals" available. Once you pass the ASA exams, VSS submits the paperwork to ASA for you and ASA mails the certification stickers to you. You then have the option of joining ASA and the VSS Why Buy Club (where you can rent J22 sailboats in four different large Colorado lakes: Chatfield, Cherry Creek, Lake Carter and Lake Dillon.
