Auraria Town Founded

The Town of Auraria was founded in November 1858 — just weeks before Denver City across Cherry Creek. Named after Auraria, Georgia, it was one of Colorado's first settlements during the Pikes Peak Gold Rush.

Urban Renewal Demolishes the Neighborhood

In a controversial urban renewal project, the City of Denver demolished virtually the entire Auraria neighborhood to build a higher education campus. Over 300 Victorian homes and businesses were razed, displacing 4,000+ residents.

The Auraria Campus sits at 1050 10th St Plaza, Denver, CO 80204, and its programming is posted on three separate calendars rather than one. This Auraria Denver Events Guide starts at that address and takes the pieces in order: who shares the grounds, where each calendar lives, how to arrive, and which two places to pair with a visit.

The Shared Auraria Campus

The campus is a 150-acre higher education community in downtown Denver, shared by Community College of Denver, Metropolitan State University of Denver and University of Colorado Denver, and the Auraria Campus site lays out the grounds. Background on the shared campus is also on the Auraria Higher Education Center site .

Three institutions on one set of blocks means Auraria campus events come from more than one host. A student event, a cultural program or a community lecture can start at any of the three colleges, so no single listing holds everything. One trip with the calendars in hand can reach programming from all three schools, and the campus is built to be read as one place rather than as three separate addresses.

Where Campus Events Are Listed

Three pages carry the Auraria events calendar, and each covers a different slice. The special events page on the Auraria campus site lists campus programming and is the first stop. The UC Denver calendar carries the Auraria Creates 2026 entry, which shows how an Auraria event appears on a college calendar. MSU Denver publishes its own events calendar.

Each college posts its own dates and details, so the full picture of Auraria Denver events comes from reading the three pages side by side. The special events page covers the campus as a whole. The UC Denver and MSU Denver calendars carry the college-level listings. Check each event's own listing for who can attend before planning a trip.

Access Features, Transit Links and Parking

The campus has a wheelchair accessible entrance and wheelchair accessible parking. It is reached by major highways, bike paths, bus stops and two RTD light rail stations, as listed on the campus site.

That mix lets a visitor choose a way in before leaving home: ride a bike path, take a bus to a stop at the campus, or come in by light rail. For those who drive, payment for parking is required at all times and is enforced 24 hours a day. Choosing transit or a bike path before leaving home removes the parking question entirely.

Nearby Places to Plan Around a Campus Event

Two places pair well with a campus visit. Hours can change, so confirm with each venue before going.

Meow Wolf Denver is at 1338 1st Street. The Meow Wolf site describes a surreal, walk-through art experience with many interactive rooms, bizarre sculptures and a story arc. It is open Mon-Thu 10 a.m.-10 p.m., Fri-Sat 10 a.m.-11 p.m. and Sun 10 a.m.-10 p.m., and it is good for children. Parking is paid street parking, and it has a wheelchair accessible entrance and seating.

Tivoli Brewing Beer Garden is at 900 Auraria Pkwy. The outdoor beer garden, listed on the Auraria event venues page, allows well-behaved dogs to join their owners for a pint. It is open Mon-Thu 2 p.m.-9 p.m. and Fri-Sun noon-9 p.m. Parking is a paid garage, and the entrance is wheelchair accessible.

The campus site also places Larimer Square, DCPA, Ball Arena and Empower Field at Mile High within walking distance, along with Meow Wolf. A plan that works: start at a campus event, then move to Tivoli in the afternoon or Meow Wolf in the evening.
